What Is the Australian PPL Theory Exam Like?

Knowing the format helps you prepare calmly for the CASA aeroplane PPL theory examination. Unlike the New Zealand subject-examination structure, Australian students sit one comprehensive PPL theory examination covering the principal knowledge areas.

Applying knowledge across subjects

Prepare for questions spanning aerodynamics, aircraft general knowledge, human factors, meteorology, air law, navigation, and operations, performance and planning. Our Flight Radio subject adds focused communication preparation to these areas.

Prepare for the practicalities

The computer-based examination is supervised at an approved centre. The published duration is 3 hours and 30 minutes, with a 70% pass mark. Confirm current requirements, permitted materials and booking instructions with CASA and your examination provider.

Practise using approved charts and navigation equipment, and review why an answer is correct. Read the full examination preparation guide or explore the courses.
