Human factors is the subject about people. It looks at how pilots perform under pressure, how fatigue and stress affect performance, and how the human body copes with the demands of flight. In many ways it is the subject that shapes how you will fly for your whole career.
What this subject covers
- How the human body reacts to altitude and acceleration
- Fatigue, stress, workload and decision-making
- Human error and how to prevent it
- Communication and teamwork in the cockpit
- Crew resource management
Why it matters
Most flight accidents involve some form of human error. Understanding how your own body and mind behave in the air — and how to manage them — is one of the most valuable skills a pilot can build. It is what turns a technically capable pilot into a safe, reliable one.
